Not many businesses provide a product so durable it could be considered a life companion, but if anyone can, it’s McWilliams Bags
Based in Crosshaven, County Cork, these sailing bags have a simple, iconic design and a long history. Starting out as a side product from McWilliams Sailmakers in the 1970s, the business has proved as durable as the products they create.

Claire and Barry, who took over the business in 2017, have modernised it while preserving its connection to Crosshaven, County Cork. Their new workshop/shop allows customers to witness the making of these bags firsthand. You also might meet Ireland’s greatest shopkeeper, Bert the Shetland Sheepdog.

The aim of this short video was to showcase McWilliam’s story and products in a punchy, colourful manner that matches the stand-out bags they make.

Working with them was a pleasure, and I hope this video captures the essence of their remarkable work.Recording as I went, I put together this showcase to highlight the business, their amazing products, and the great design space they have here in Cork.
